A Former CEO

It was an honor to be selected when the board of the United Family Medicine in St. Paul, Minnesota chose me to become the CEO in 2006. For seven years, I served as their CEO and left in January 2013. I was thankful that my entrepreneurial thinking and continuous approach to learning and opportunity was the driving force behind their decision.

My Accomplishments

United Family Medicine (UFM) had a wonderfully complex system with a dual mission to serve and teach. I accomplished a lot with the company during my service as their leader. These included:

Expansion of access to care and services
Construction of a $15 million facility that included complex tax credit financing
Establishment of a major fund development program
Movement from a position of financial fragility to one of strength
Certified with Federal Community Health Center status

With my studies and my work, I committed to using both business and social operating practices to lead a “convergence” of resources and strengths. Combining them creates value and opportunities and generates advantages for organizations and individuals. My Approach to Learning

A Dedicated Educator

I taught entrepreneurship at the university level at the St. Catherine University. There, I co-founded the Institute for Women Entrepreneurs. As a former nurse, operations director, and educator, I completed my PhD at the University of Minnesota in 2012. My in-depth study was on the experience of social entrepreneurs.

As a leader and educator, I have the passion for guiding individuals and organizations to the intersection of entrepreneurial thinking, emerging ideas, and mission integrity to create value and achieve success.

It is my mission to serve as a “thinking partner,” offering coaching, mentoring, and consulting services. I maintain a special focus on emerging and current leaders with an understanding of the strategic responsibility inherent in key leadership roles.

Community Development

My background includes leadership in not-for-profit, health care, and academic organizations, teaching and advanced degrees in organizational learning, human resource development, and the study of social entrepreneurship. Described as a builder who is both compassionate and fearless, with a deep-level commitment to integrating business and social principles

I am privileged to have been recognized by The Women’s Press, the Business Journal, and the Small Business Administration for my accomplishments in the past. Currently, I serve on the Women Venture loan committee. I am also a member of the housing task force working to build a supportive apartment housing community for the homeless youth in Ramsey County.

Community Clinic Re-build and Transformation

I led a complex project to relocate and expand a community clinic, gaining BPHC funding and Health Center status. The project included oversight of capital campaign, land purchase and building construction, and expansion of programs.

Business Program Development

My woman-focused entrepreneurship and leadership programs at St. Catherine University expanded client membership from 700 to 4,800 in 36 months.

Career Transition Center

To successfully transition 1,350 dislocated employees, I co-designed and directed an award-winning corporate center.

My Passions in Life

There are many things you may not know about me. I love playing in the dirt (or soil, to be more accurate) and spending time with my family. Because my spouse is a jazz musician, I also developed professional roadie skills, carrying many amps, guitars, and gig bags for decades.
